FREE FLOW YOGA

Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring Free Flow Yoga on Tuesdays in September, October and November from 5:30-6:45 PM at Whitcomb Lodge.  Pay for the whole month or $9 per drop-in session.

GAME DAY W/MINDY

Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring Game Day for ages 50 and over on Monday, August 31st from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM at the Stewart Building. Join us for some fun rounds of Uno, Flip 7 and Phase 10. Bring a drink and snack if you like. The fee is $10.

GLOW PAINT – WATERFALL (OPEN TO ADULTS NOW)

Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring a Glow Paint Class on Friday, September 4th from 3:00 – 5:00 PM at the Stewart Building. Get ready to light up the evening! Everyone from ages 11-99 are invited to create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece using vibrant glow paints under black lights. Bring a friend, join your child or come solo! No experience is needed - all supplies are provided. The fee is $40.

GYMNASTICS 

Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring Gymnastics for ages 3 - 15 on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Botetourt Elementary and Wednesdays at Achilles Elementary from September 1st through November 19th.?Multiple classes are offered for students of all levels from beginner to intermediate/advanced.?The fee is $75 and the deadline is one week before the session starts. 

KID’S YOGA

Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring Yoga for ages 3 - 11 on Friday evenings from September 11th – October 16th at the Stewart Building. Timeslots vary by age group. The fee is $50.

Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring a Best Years Trip to Zoll Vineyard for Flight Friday on Friday, September 11th from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM. The fee is $15.

HARVEST MARKET AT OOZLEFINCH BEERS & BLENDING

Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring a Best Years Trip to the Harvest Market at Oozlefinch located at Fort Monroe in Hampton on Sunday, September 13th from 12:00 PM – 6:15 PM. Spend some time at the outdoor harvest market where you'll find vendors offering local produce, honey and flowers. Pasture raised meat and eggs as well as baked goods are available as well. The fee is $25.

INTERNATIONAL CUISINE CULINARY CLUB

Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring a 4-week session of International Cuisine Culinary Club for?ages?16 and older on Tuesdays from 5:00-7:00 PM, September 8th – 29th at the Stewart Building.??You will explore international cuisine, characteristic cooking?practices?and traditions.??German, French, Italian, Turkish, Indian,?Thai?and Mexican to name a few.??The fee is $55.

WEST POINT’S FOOD TRUCKS BY THE RIVER

Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring a Best Years Trip to West Point Friday on Friday, September 18th from 4:00 Pm – 8:30 PM. Held on select Friday evenings from spring through fall at The Pavilion at Riverwalk Park, this family-friendly event brings together the best of our local flavors, featuring a rotating selection of food trucks, wine from Gauthier Vineyard, and live music—all set against the backdrop of beautiful river and creek views. The fee is $30.

DRUMHELLER’S ORCHARD – HARVEST FESTIVAL

Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring a Best Years Trip to Drumheller’s Orchard in Nelson County, VA on Saturday, September 26th from 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM. Drumheller’s Apple Festival blends hands-on farming tradition with lively fall fun! Whether you’re launching apples at targets, tasting apple butter fresh from the kettle, enjoying country beats, or simply taking in the scenic mountain air, it will be an experience of Autumnal joy. The fee is $30.

JAMESTOWN DISCOVERY SIGHT SEEING TOUR

Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring a Best Years Trip to Jamestown Discovery Tours for a sight-seeing tour on Wednesday, September 30th from 11:30 AM – 4:30 PM. Enjoy a guided tour of the James River. Take in the natural sights and sounds along the river and learn more about the beautiful Historic area. You will have lunch at Dizzy Izzy's on your own. The fee is $65.

SENIOR BINGO 

Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring Bingo for ages 50 and over on Wednesday, September 23rd from 10:30 am to Noon at the Stewart Building.  Winnings are prizes, no cash.  The fee is $10.

TOUCH A TRUCK

Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring is sponsoring Touch A Truck at Old Page Grounds on Sunday, November 1st from 12 – 4 PM. No registration is required for the general public. Trucks who are interested in participating visit us online to register.

Gloucester County Unveils New Driving Tour Exploring the
1781 Battle of the Hook
The Gloucester Museum of History proudly announces the launch of the Battle of the Hook Driving
Tour, a new self-guided driving tour exploring the events, people, and key sites of the Battle of the
Hook, the largest cavalry engagement of the American Revolution and a crucial Franco-American
victory. The tour brochure is available at the Museum of History and Gloucester Visitor Center, at
no cost, and an online version is also available.
 

The October 3, 1781, Battle of the Hook is one of the most important episodes of the siege of
Yorktown, when the Duc de Lauzun's famous Legion of hussars with 300 troops of the "Infanterie
de Marine,” and Lieutenant Colonel John Mercer's Select Battalion of Grenadiers, under the overall
command of French Brigadier General Claude de Choisy, defeated Lieutenant Colonel Banastre
Tarleton's British Legion and a detachment of the Royal Welch Fusiliers. The fighting at Gloucester
helped cut off British escape routes from Yorktown, directly contributing to their surrender just
sixteen days later, on October 19, 1781.
 

The driving tour guides visitors to pivotal locations throughout Gloucester County, including the
historic Tavern at Gloucester Courthouse (now the Gloucester Museum of History), Ware
Episcopal Church, Abingdon Episcopal Church, and Seawell’s Ordinary. Each site reveals how local
landscapes became strategic military positions during the final campaign for American
independence.
Additional highlights include the Second Surrender, memorialized at Tyndall’s Point Park, where
British troops garrisoned in Gloucester surrendered to French forces one hour after the October 19,
1781, capitulation at Yorktown. The tour also directs visitors to Abingdon Elementary School,
where they may experience interpretive signage and a new memorial honoring the five French
soldiers who fell during the battle.
“This tour invites locals and guests to explore Gloucester’s beauty and history while visiting
landmarks where decisive moments in America’s fight for independence unfolded,” said Robert
Kelly, Gloucester’s Historic Resources Supervisor. “As we commemorate the nation’s 250 th birthday,
the tour is a powerful way to connect Gloucester’s history and landscapes with the broader story of
America’s founding while also honoring the importance of the Franco-American Alliance.”

Registration is now open for 4-H Camp for Gloucester, Essex and Middlesex. Camp will be held June 8th-12th at the Jamestown 4-H Center.
